DAWNGAZER Announced for Switch 2, PS5 and PC: 2028 Action RPG From Unicorn Overlord Director
DAWNGAZER, a new action RPG led by Unicorn Overlord director Takafumi Noma, was officially announced on September 25, 2026. The project is targeting a 2028 release on Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5 and PC via Steam.
The announcement is notable because DAWNGAZER is not being positioned as a standalone one-off project. It is the first game set in IGNISPHERE, a newly created original fantasy world and IP that its creators intend to expand beyond games.
DAWNGAZER: the confirmed details
Good Smile Company and Japanese studio Monochrome announced IGNISPHERE and DAWNGAZER together. Monochrome is handling planning and development, while Good Smile Company is serving as publisher and handling promotion.
- Genre: Action RPG
- Release window: 2028
- Platforms: Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5 and Steam
- Developer: Monochrome / IGNISPHERE Studio
- Publisher: Good Smile Company
- Director: Takafumi Noma
- Confirmed languages: Japanese, English, Traditional Chinese and Simplified Chinese
Those are the important hard facts at this stage. A specific release date, price, ESRB rating and detailed combat systems have not yet been announced, so players should treat any additional specifics circulating online as unconfirmed unless the developers reveal them later.

Why Takafumi Noma’s involvement matters
Noma is best known as the director of Unicorn Overlord. Good Smile Company says he also worked across that game’s scenario and character-design process in addition to directing it.
For IGNISPHERE, Noma is taking a similarly broad creative role. The new project is being built around an original world containing multiple nations and races, with the stated goal of creating a cohesive setting rather than separating every creative discipline into isolated pieces.
That does not mean DAWNGAZER will play like Unicorn Overlord. The confirmed genre is action RPG, while Unicorn Overlord is a tactical RPG. The connection worth watching is the creative leadership, not an assumption that the two games share the same gameplay structure.
IGNISPHERE is bigger than one game
The announcement also reveals a broader plan for the new IP. Good Smile Company and Monochrome describe IGNISPHERE as both the fictional world and the name of the development studio centered around Noma.
The companies say they plan to expand the property through multiple forms of media. Good Smile Company will serve as the merchandising contact, including for figures, while multiple light-novel projects set in the IGNISPHERE world are already being developed with KADOKAWA’s Fujimi Fantasia Bunko label.

The music team already has familiar names
Good Smile Company confirmed that Yoshimi Kudo is producing music for the game. The announcement specifically cites his previous work associated with Unicorn Overlord and Elden Ring.
The music in the first IGNISPHERE teaser is composed and arranged by Kudo, with KOCHO handling vocals and singer coordination. SAK. and Maki Takimoto are also credited on vocals, with Wataru Mukai on cello.
What gamers should watch next
DAWNGAZER is still far enough from its planned 2028 release that the most important information remains unknown. The next meaningful reveals should answer several basic questions:
- What does moment-to-moment combat actually look like?
- Is the world structured around large explorable areas, stages or another format?
- Will all three announced platforms launch simultaneously?
- How will IGNISPHERE’s nations and races affect party building, progression or combat?
- Will there be physical editions for Switch 2 or PS5?
The last question could be especially interesting for collectors, but no physical edition has been announced. For now, the useful takeaway is simple: DAWNGAZER is a new multiplatform action RPG with experienced creative leadership, a 2028 target and a larger transmedia world being built around it.
