Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave Launches Today on Switch 2: What to Know Before You Play
Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave is available today, September 17, 2026, exclusively for Nintendo Switch 2. The new tactical RPG sends players across an interwoven story built around four heroes, the Heroic Games and a looming battle against the demon god Balor.
For players deciding whether to jump in at launch, here are the confirmed details that matter most—including the game’s structure, its connection to Fire Emblem: Three Houses, Switch 2-specific controls and download requirements.

Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave release date and platform
Nintendo lists Fortune’s Weave for release on September 17, 2026. It is a Nintendo Switch 2 title rather than a cross-generation release for the original Switch.
Nintendo’s U.S. store lists an estimated 29.5 GB file size. The game supports TV, tabletop and handheld play, Save Data Cloud through Nintendo Switch Online, and family-group lending.
The standard digital edition is listed at $69.99 on Nintendo’s U.S. site. A physical Dagdan Collection also launches September 17.
Four heroes, one story woven across time
The central setup revolves around the Dagdan Empire and its Heroic Games, a competition where the winner is promised one wish. Nintendo’s launch material identifies four major heroes whose paths become intertwined:
- Cai — a young boy trying to save his imprisoned father.
- Dietrich — a swordsman continually searching for stronger opponents.
- Theodora — a queen pursuing a long-held ambition for her homeland.
- Leda — a musician driven by revenge.
The player takes the role of a customizable protagonist tasked with traveling through time and guiding those heroes. Nintendo says the larger conflict ultimately centers on stopping Balor, a revived demon god whose return threatens the Dagdan Empire.

Yes, Fortune’s Weave is connected to Three Houses
The connection to Fire Emblem: Three Houses is more than a visual resemblance. In Nintendo’s official developer interview, the team confirms that Dagda and Fódlan exist in the same world and that some characters from Three Houses appear in Fortune’s Weave.
That connection also extends behind the scenes. Character designer Chinatsu Kurahana returned after working on Three Houses. The developers say Dagda was deliberately designed to feel different from Fódlan, with environments including ocean, desert and rainforest regions and clothing shaped by the climates and cultures of its different factions.
Players should not expect a simple recreation of Three Houses, though. Nintendo’s developers describe the new game as having a different atmosphere and a story centered heavily on family, personal perspective and characters whose motivations are not easily divided into traditional “good” and “evil” roles.
The tactical RPG core remains—but Switch 2 adds mouse controls
Fortune’s Weave remains a grid-based tactical RPG at its core. Nintendo and Intelligent Systems emphasized in their developer interview that preserving that tactical identity was important even while expanding the scope of the world.
One genuinely new control option comes from the Switch 2 hardware: Joy-Con 2 mouse controls are supported. Nintendo specifically highlighted mouse input as a new option for navigating the tactical RPG.
That could be particularly useful for players who prefer pointer-style movement when selecting units, commands and positions across battle maps, although traditional controls remain available.

The soundtrack is deliberately different from Three Houses
Nintendo’s newly published developer interview also reveals an unusual part of the game’s creative direction. The team wanted Dagda to evoke an ancient Mediterranean atmosphere, so the soundtrack incorporates flamenco-inspired elements, hand claps, percussion and recorded flamenco guitar.
Each main protagonist also has a thematic musical phrase. According to the developers, those individual motifs eventually combine when the protagonists come together—mirroring the game’s larger “weaving” concept.
What is the Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave Dagdan Collection?
Nintendo is also selling a physical Dagdan Collection for Switch 2. Nintendo’s U.S. listing confirms that it releases alongside the standard game on September 17 and identifies Intelligent Systems as the developer.
Availability for collector editions can change quickly by retailer, so anyone specifically hunting the Dagdan Collection should check current retailer inventory rather than assuming launch-day stock.
