Gears of War: E-Day Launches October 6: Release Time, Game Pass, Co-Op and Horde Siege Explained

Gears of War: E-Day launches worldwide on October 6, 2026 at 8:00 a.m. PT / 15:00 UTC, bringing Marcus Fenix and Dominic Santiago back for an origin story set during the first Locust invasion.

The Coalition's new entry launches on Xbox Series X|S, Windows PC and Steam, with day-one access through Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass. Here is what players need to know before Emergence Day begins.

Gears of War: E-Day release time

Xbox is using a simultaneous worldwide launch rather than a rolling midnight release. Standard Edition players and eligible Game Pass subscribers gain access October 6 at 8:00 a.m. Pacific / 15:00 UTC.

Premium Edition early access began October 1 at the same worldwide time.

Is Gears of War: E-Day on Game Pass?

Yes. Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass members can play beginning October 6. Xbox also supports cloud play for eligible Game Pass Ultimate subscribers, and the game supports Xbox Play Anywhere between Xbox console and Windows PC purchases.

Marcus and Dom return for an origin story

E-Day takes place 14 years before the original Gears of War. Marcus Fenix and Dominic Santiago face the Locust Horde as it first erupts from underground, showing the events that reshape Sera and eventually lead into the original trilogy.

The Coalition has emphasized a darker horror tone, with familiar Locust enemies redesigned to feel threatening again alongside new creatures and villains.

Campaign co-op and multiplayer

The campaign can be played solo, with two-player split-screen on console, or through online co-op. Beyond the story, E-Day brings back competitive Versus and expands the franchise's PvE formula with Horde Siege.

  • Campaign: Solo, split-screen co-op on console and online co-op
  • Horde Siege: Large-scale PvE supporting up to 12 online players
  • Versus: Refined competitive PvP with fan-favorite 4v4 modes

What is Horde Siege?

Horde Siege is a larger take on Gears' wave-survival mode, designed around bigger battlefields and larger squads. Xbox describes it as an evolved PvE battlefield, while the game's online capabilities support multiplayer sessions of up to 12 players.

Built from the ground up in Unreal Engine 5

The Coalition rebuilt E-Day on Unreal Engine 5. Xbox lists support for 4K resolution and up to 60 FPS across campaign and multiplayer on compatible hardware and displays.

The gameplay retains Gears' cover-based combat while adding modernized movement and traversal designed to provide more freedom and verticality. Returning weapons have also been reworked alongside new close-quarters options.
