Mario Kart World Open September 2026 Is Live: How to Enter the Fall Cup Qualifier

Nintendo’s Mario Kart World Open September 2026 is now underway, giving eligible Nintendo Switch 2 players their first chance to qualify for December’s Mario Kart World Fall Cup 2026 Championship.

The opening qualifier runs from September 19 at 2:00 p.m. PT through September 20 at 6:00 p.m. PT. Players can enter directly inside Mario Kart World using Event ID 7943.

Here is what competitors need to know before hitting the starting grid.

Nintendo says eligible participants from North and South America in the September Open can also receive 50 My Nintendo Platinum Points. The points are expected to become claimable on or about September 29.

How to enter the September Mario Kart World Open

Joining is handled entirely through the game. From Mario Kart World, select Online Play, press the – Button to search for an event, and enter the four-digit Event ID 7943.

Players need a Nintendo Switch 2, a copy of Mario Kart World, a Nintendo Account, a reliable internet connection and an active Nintendo Switch Online membership. Nintendo’s official rules state that a trial Nintendo Switch Online membership also qualifies.

For the Fall Cup tournament itself, competitors must be legal residents of the United States (including Washington, D.C.), Canada or Mexico and physically located in one of those territories while competing. The minimum age is 13 in the U.S. and Canada and 18 in Mexico.

What rules are used?

The qualifier uses a controlled VS Race format rather than the normal online matchmaking setup. Nintendo lists the settings as:

  • VS Race
  • 150cc
  • No teams
  • Normal items
  • No COM racers
  • Connected course selection
  • Up to 32 races per player
  • 30-second interval

The event uses its own rating separate from the ratings used in regular online Race, Survival and Battle modes.

How qualification for the Fall Cup works

The September Open is the first of three qualifying events. Additional qualifiers are scheduled for October 17–18 and November 21–22, followed by the Fall Cup Championship on December 12, 2026.

According to Nintendo’s official rules, the top 24 players from each qualifying event get the opportunity to advance to the championship. That makes the September event more than a participation tournament: it is the first direct route into Nintendo’s year-end Mario Kart World competition.

Nintendo lists 24 prize packages for the overall tournament, with the top three championship finishers receiving trophies, NintendoVS backpacks and decorative Mario Kart World patches. The published total approximate retail value of all prize packages is $1,613.76.

A recent update gives racers more ways to practice

The qualifier arrives only days after Nintendo released a free Mario Kart World update on September 15. That update added 10 classic Super Mario Kart courses as standalone VS Races, including Choco Island, Vanilla Lake and Ghost Valley.

It also added two Knockout Tour routes—Propeller Rally and Turnip Rally—and a Spectator Mode for online friend rooms and LAN Play. Those additions are not a separate ruleset for the Fall Cup qualifier, but the expanded VS Race content gives players more options for sharpening fundamentals outside the tournament.

One privacy detail competitors should know

Nintendo notes that participating can make some Nintendo Account information visible on the event results page. That may include a player’s username, player icon and score.

Players chasing a qualifying position should also review Nintendo’s eligibility and conduct rules before competing; violations can make a player ineligible for the rankings.

Bottom line

If you already own Mario Kart World and want to test yourself in structured competition, the September Open is an unusually accessible entry point: there is no separate registration site or live-event travel requirement for the qualifier. Enter 7943 in-game during the event window and race up to 32 times.

The key target is simple: finish among the top 24 in a qualifier to earn an opportunity to compete in December’s Fall Cup Championship.
