What's new in the 31-card Alchemy release?

Unlike the tabletop expansion, this addition is exclusive to MTG Arena. Wizards has previewed cards including Enter the Eternities and Salvaged Imitations, and says one card features a spellbook with an unusual selection of powerful cards. The digital-only cards can use mechanics that are impractical in paper Magic.

These cards are separate from the physical Reality Fracture expansion. Collectors should not expect physical booster packs to contain the new Alchemy cards.

Events to try in October

Wizards' official event calendar includes the October 13–November 3 Alchemy Premier Draft, October 15–17 All Alchemy Deck Duels, and October 18–19 Alchemy Bot Draft. The wider Reality Fracture schedule also includes Draft, Sealed, Brawl, and competitive events.

Why is Alchemy ending in February 2027?

Wizards says Alchemy was introduced in 2021 to support additional non-Standard content, faster metagame changes and digital-only design. With Arena now supporting more formats and releases, the company plans to focus its resources elsewhere. Alchemy: Reality Fracture is the last Alchemy release currently planned.

The Alchemy Play, ranked ladder, Constructed, Direct Challenge and Best-of-Three queues are scheduled to end on February 2, 2027, alongside the next rotation.

Will players keep their Alchemy cards?

Yes. Wizards confirms digital-only Alchemy cards remain in players' MTG Arena collections and can still be used in eligible formats such as Historic, Timeless, Brawl and Competitive Brawl, subject to individual format legality and bans. The retirement does not mean an automatic wildcard refund for Alchemy collections.

Should you spend wildcards on Alchemy cards now?

If you mainly play Alchemy, remember that its dedicated format is ending in February. Before crafting, check whether the cards you want are legal and useful in Historic, Timeless or Brawl. If you simply want to sample the release, the scheduled draft and preconstructed-deck events may be more useful than committing to a full constructed deck.
