Pokémon TCG: Delta Reign Prerelease Dates, Build & Battle Format and What Players Need to Know

Pokémon TCG players can get their first hands-on look at Mega Evolution—Delta Reign before the expansion’s full release. The Pokémon Company announced on September 28 that official prerelease events will give players an early chance to build a deck, open new boosters, and play quick matches with the upcoming set.

Delta Reign prerelease events begin October 24, 2026, ahead of the expansion’s worldwide release on November 6, 2026. That makes prerelease weekend one of the first practical opportunities to see how the set’s new cards perform in physical play.

When are Delta Reign prerelease events?

The official Pokémon announcement confirms that prerelease play begins October 24. Individual Pokémon Leagues and participating hobby stores can schedule events within the prerelease window, so exact dates and start times vary by venue.

Players should use the official Pokémon Event Locator and confirm registration details with the host store before traveling. Prerelease events can have limited seating.

What comes in a Build & Battle Box?

According to Pokémon’s prerelease guidance, each participant uses a Build & Battle Box built around the new expansion. The box includes a ready-to-play 40-card deck plus four Delta Reign booster packs.

The format is designed to get players into games quickly rather than requiring a fully prepared Standard deck from home. You open the included boosters, decide which cards improve the supplied deck, make your changes, and then play with a 40-card deck.

That smaller deck size also changes normal Pokémon TCG pacing: prerelease games use four Prize cards instead of six.

Why prerelease is useful even if you are not a tournament regular

Prerelease events are among the most approachable organized-play formats because everyone is working from a limited pool of brand-new cards. You do not need a top-tier constructed deck to participate.

  • Collectors get an early look at physical cards from the new expansion.
  • Newer players can learn deck-building decisions in a smaller 40-card format.
  • Competitive players can begin evaluating attacks, Abilities, Trainers and Energy interactions before the set enters wider circulation.
  • Local communities get a natural meetup point ahead of release day.

What is in Mega Evolution—Delta Reign?

Pokémon’s current set preview says Delta Reign contains more than 135 cards and continues the Mega Evolution Series. The expansion includes Mega Evolution Pokémon ex, Trainer cards and special illustrations.

Among the cards Pokémon has officially previewed are Heat Rotom ex, Groudon, Kommo-o, Delibird and the Supporter card Zinnia’s Trust. The full expansion launches November 6.

That matters for prerelease players because early limited-format performance does not always translate directly to Standard play. A card that is excellent in a 40-card prerelease deck may fill a very different role once players have access to the complete Standard card pool.

How to prepare for a prerelease

You generally do not need to bring a constructed deck, but a few basics make the event easier. Bring card sleeves, damage counters or dice, a coin or legal randomizer, and a way to track your cards. Stores may provide some play materials, but availability differs by organizer.

Most importantly, verify the event listing before you go. Registration rules, entry fees, player caps and prize support are set by individual organizers and can differ from store to store.
