Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown Is Free to Try on Switch — Game Trial Dates, 70% Sale and Rewards

Nintendo Switch Online members have a limited-time chance to play the full Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown on Nintendo Switch at no additional cost. Nintendo’s latest Game Trial runs through September 30, 2026, giving subscribers access to the complete base game rather than a restricted demo.

The timing is especially useful for anyone who has been curious about Ubisoft’s acclaimed action-platformer: Nintendo is also discounting the digital version by 70% for a limited time, and progress from the Game Trial carries over if you buy the game.

Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown Game Trial dates

According to Nintendo’s official announcement, the Game Trial began September 24 at 10:00 a.m. PT and ends September 30 at 11:59 p.m. PT.

How the Nintendo Switch Online Game Trial works

Game Trials are different from ordinary demos. Eligible Nintendo Switch Online members can download and play the full game while the promotion is active. Once the trial period ends, access ends unless you purchase the game, but Nintendo confirms that your save data remains available.

The Lost Crown is a Metroidvania-style action-adventure built around exploration, platforming, combat and time-based abilities. You play as Sargon while exploring Mount Qaf, opening new routes as additional powers become available.

Nintendo lists the Switch download at approximately 7.1 GB. The game supports TV, tabletop and handheld play, and Nintendo’s current compatibility listing says its behavior on Nintendo Switch 2 is consistent with Nintendo Switch.

The digital game is also 70% off

Nintendo’s U.S. announcement lists the digital version at $8.99, down from $29.99, a 70% discount. The U.S. sale ends October 7 at 11:59 p.m. PT, giving players several days after the Game Trial closes to decide whether to continue.

That distinction matters: the free-play window and sale do not end at the same time. The Game Trial ends September 30, while the promotional U.S. purchase price remains available through October 7.

If you purchase after playing the trial, Nintendo says you can keep your save data and continue from your existing progress rather than starting over.

You can earn 100 My Nintendo Platinum Points

Nintendo says eligible Nintendo Switch Online members can complete a mission for 100 My Nintendo Platinum Points by trying the Game Trial. Nintendo directs players to the Missions & Rewards section of Nintendo Switch Online on the Switch HOME Menu for mission details. A Nintendo Account is required to receive and redeem points.

What is Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown?

Released on January 18, 2024, Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown was developed by Ubisoft Montpellier. It shifts the long-running series into a side-scrolling Metroidvania structure while retaining the franchise’s emphasis on acrobatic movement and time manipulation.

Ubisoft describes the game as an action-adventure platformer set in a mythological Persian world. Players use Sargon’s combat skills and Time Powers to traverse interconnected areas, solve puzzles and fight bosses. Ubisoft says the game runs at 60 frames per second across its supported platforms.

The base game is what Nintendo’s Game Trial covers. Ubisoft also offers a Complete Edition with additional content, including the Mask of Darkness story DLC, so buyers should check which edition contains the content they want.

Is the September 2026 Game Trial worth downloading?

For an existing Nintendo Switch Online member, the trial is a low-risk way to spend meaningful time with the game before buying it. The full base game is available during the window, progress can carry into a purchase, and the overlapping discount remains available after the trial ends.

The key deadline is September 30 at 11:59 p.m. PT. If you want to use the trial rather than simply buy the discounted game, download it early enough to play before access closes.
