Tokyo Game Show 2026 Cancels September 21 Final Day as Typhoon No. 25 Approaches
Tokyo Game Show 2026 will not open on Monday, September 21. Organizer CESA announced on September 19 that the event’s final public day has been canceled as Typhoon No. 25 approaches Japan, with worsening wind and rain expected and potential disruption to public transportation.
The cancellation cuts short what had been planned as the longest Tokyo Game Show ever. TGS 2026 opened September 17 at Makuhari Messe and was originally scheduled to run for five days through September 21.
What is canceled — and what is still happening?
CESA’s current plan is straightforward:
- Saturday, September 19: Public day proceeds under the existing schedule.
- Sunday, September 20: TGS 2026 is scheduled to open as planned. Organizers warn that individual facilities or activities could still be changed or canceled if conditions deteriorate.
- Monday, September 21: The entire in-person event is canceled.
For Sunday attendees, CESA specifically warns of heavy rain and strong winds and recommends checking both the latest weather forecast and public-transportation schedules before traveling. Because Sunday is currently proceeding, September 20 tickets are not being refunded on the basis of this announcement.

September 21 ticket holders will receive refunds
CESA says tickets purchased for Monday, September 21 will be refunded. The exact process depends on the ticket vendor used for the purchase, and organizers say additional refund instructions will be posted on the official TGS website once finalized.
That distinction matters: Monday ticket holders should retain their purchase information and wait for instructions from their ticket vendor or the official TGS channels rather than assuming every platform will use the same refund process.
Some canceled Monday stage events may move online
The September 21 schedule was supposed to include major programming, including the Red Bull Revenge Street Fighter 6 special matches and the TGS 2026 ending stage. The published schedule listed competitors including Big Bird, MenaRD, Blaz and Leshar among the invited players.

Those in-person Monday events are now canceled with the rest of the show. However, CESA says it is working to move some September 21 stage programming to online streams if venue safety conditions allow.
Importantly, organizers have not yet confirmed which Monday programs will stream. Viewers should not assume a specific stage event is moving online until TGS publishes an updated program and broadcast time.
Why TGS canceled the final day
CESA says conditions are expected to intensify Monday afternoon as Typhoon No. 25 approaches. The concern is not limited to conditions inside Makuhari Messe: organizers specifically cited the possibility of public-transportation disruption and the need for attendees, exhibitors and staff to be able to return home safely.
The decision is especially notable because 2026 was designed as TGS’s biggest anniversary edition. CESA reported 1,138 exhibitors from 53 countries and regions when the show opened, with 3,999 exhibition booths. The planned September 17–21 run would also have been the first five-day Tokyo Game Show.
What attendees should do now
- September 20 ticket holders: Check the official TGS website, weather forecasts and rail/transit updates before leaving for Makuhari Messe.
- September 21 ticket holders: Do not travel to the venue. Keep your ticket and purchase confirmation while waiting for vendor-specific refund instructions.
- Fans watching remotely: Watch for a revised September 21 streaming schedule. Some stage programming may still happen online, but the lineup is not yet confirmed.
- Anyone with exhibitor-specific plans: Check that publisher or developer’s official channels as well as TGS, because booth activities and independent streams may receive separate updates.
Where to check for official updates
The situation can still change with the typhoon’s path. The most reliable source is the official Tokyo Game Show September 19 notice. CESA says further announcements will be posted to the TGS 2026 website and official social channels if weather or transportation conditions require additional changes.
